I interrupt regular book blogging to bring you this post about one of the most important people in my life. My mother.
Today, September 17th, is her birthday and I’d feel terrible if I didn’t acknowledge it over here on my site considering she’s a vital reason why this little blog even exists. I won’t be disclosing her age because 1) a lady should never reveal her age and b) because I’d like to avoid a massive telling off from her!
This is just a short thank you to my mum for everything she has done for me from the moment I arrived on this planet because I am well aware I don’t appreciate her enough.
So, Mum,
Thank you for evoking my love for literature and writing from a very early age which has led to me having so many amazing opportunities. Thank you for always supporting me and pushing me to do my best. Thank you not disowning me even though I’m absolutely terrible at maths and letting our Asian stereotype down (ha-ha). Thank you for making sure I’m clothed, fed and happy.
Thank you for putting up with me when I’m being a completely stubborn idiot. You’ve always been patient with me no matter what even when I vomited on your nice coat (and your lovely face) at the doctor’s office when I was a toddler. I can assure you that it wasn’t a fine moment for either of us.
You are an incredibly strong woman who has overcome so many struggles. No matter what life has thrown at you, you have never given up and I can only hope to be half the woman and mother you are when I’m older.
Like I said, life isn’t easy and there have been bumps along the way, but I’m glad that I know I can always turn to you for advice or as a shoulder to cry on. You never fail to make me laugh!
You’re caring, hilarious, selfless, brave and just absolutely remarkable. You’ve taught me so much already about what it means to be a good person and I can’t wait until you teach me how to be a great cook just like you ha-ha. Nothing will ever beat your stir-fry!
I hope I can continue to make you proud and that we can have many more travels and laughs together.
I love you to the moon and back. Enjoy your birthday and all your gifts!
Lots of love,
Samantha
