With lockdown still going strong, the majority of the nation is finally catching up to my usual habit of living in pyjamas 24/7. One thing I’ve learnt from a lifetime in nighties and dressing gowns with panda ears is that people will judge you. By ‘people’ I mean the Deliveroo driver and the postman.
I am, however, about to dip my toes into the real world of socially-acceptable-outfits-to-wear-when-answering-the-door as Femme Luxe have come to rescue by kindly supplying me with three sets from their loungewear collection.
I will confess that I didn’t know anything about Femme Luxe when they reached out to me. From their website and even the packaging that the sets arrived in (pictured above), it’s obvious that they’re going for a similar branding to places like Pretty Little Thing and Missguided.
If you know me, you’ll know how much I love a co-ord and Femme Luxe’s loungewear collection has such a wide range of simple and cute matching sets to choose from, but one of the biggest anxieties I have when shopping is whether or not things will fit.
While Femme Luxe do stock the basic range of sizes (S being a UK 6/8 – XL being a UK 12/14), they don’t really have a dedicated petite range – I try my best to avoid buying non-petite as it means poor Mama Kilford has to fire up the sewing machine and make adjustments to the fit. I am a UK Size 4 and stand at 5ft, but had to opt for the smallest size Femme Luxe offer which is a Size 6.
Black Contrast Stripe Cropped Loungewear Set – Hazel, £29.99 (Originally £59.98)
This set features a cropped zip up front sweatshirt and matching high-waisted jogger-esque leggings with a contrast stripe design. In order to look more like the model on the website’s image, I rolled up the sweatshirt for photographic purposes. I assume she has her’s hiked up to her cleavage too as while the actual sweatshirt is a cropped length, it’s far, far longer than both I and Femme Luxe’s website make it out to be and actually just sits on top of the joggers for me.
This is a lot more of a sportier look than I usually go for, but I’m in love with it even if I probably wouldn’t wear it outside of lounging around in the house or sitting in the garden. The bottoms are a little long on me which was to be expected since I’m tiny, but it’s not too loose anywhere which was my main concern before trying it on. Overall, I’d say I’m really impressed by the quality of this set. The fabric is really soft and stretchy and the design is quite flattering. This might just be the most casual you’ll ever see me fashion-wise, but I’m pleasantly surprised by how comfortable this set is.
This particular set is also available in white, pink and grey from here.
Pink Thick Strap Top Cropped Cycling Shorts Co-ord – Davina, £14.99 (Originally £29.98)
Remember when a trash ex said I couldn’t ever wear pink because of my skin tone? Well, we love to prove men wrong and this dusty pink set from Femme Luxe does just that!
Cycling shorts have made a comeback and I can see why – they’re incredibly wearable! Sadly, as you can see from the photos, this set was a little bit baggy on me. The straps of the crop top are a little loose and the shorts have quite a bit of excess material that bunches up around my stomach when I sit down. Yet, while the top will need to be adjusted slightly, I think I can live with the fit of the shorts. They are quite snug around the thighs and feel secure when actually up and about.
It’s breathable enough for doing my daily workout in and also comfy enough for when I’m sat on the sofa, stuffing my face with Oreos straight after so I’d say this is quite a versatile set. Unlike the former set, it’s a piece of loungewear that I probably wouldn’t feel too self conscious about sporting out in the wild too.
This particular set is also available in white, red, nude, black and grey. You can browse their specific collection of Cycling Short co-ords here.
Black Cropped Cycling Shorts Strappy Top Co-ord – Aofie, £16.99 (Originally £29.98)
A basic black set is absolutely essential for any wardrobe. This thin strap top and cycling shorts combo is simple and that’s why I love it so much. It’s just so understated in the best way! Although, I’m not sure if Femme Luxe actually meant to call this one ‘Aoife’ as opposed to what their website labels it as which is ‘Aofie’? The fabric of the shorts is stretchy so it’s very easy to put on and for the type of fast-fashion brand that Femme Luxe is, I was quite amazed by how durable the quality of the shorts seems to be.
As with the last cycling shorts set, you can see that the straps of the top are a tad too big which sadly makes the whole situation a gust of wind away from a nip slip. Therefore, mother and her sewing machine will 100% be on the case to fix that!
This particular set is also available in pink, white, red, nude, coral and grey. Check out the rest of Femme Luxe’s Black Loungewear here.
Everything I received from Femme Luxe was beyond my expectations. Their co-ord lounge sets are comfortable and cute and the quality of them appears to be better than anticipated (Although, time will tell!). I just wish they’d either had a dedicated petite range like their competitors or a smaller size than 6 available considering the fit of their tops tends to run on the bigger side. However, their loungewear collection ticks all the boxes in terms of purpose. It’s sensible enough for slouching around in whilst also being incredibly stylish that you can probably get away with rocking one on a Zoom conference call. What more could you want?
