It has been forever since my last post. I’ve sat down a few times to write something here, but life — as it tends to — has had other plans.
The big news: I bought a house.
It still feels a bit surreal. After months of solicitors, endless spreadsheet tabs, delays, decisions, and a truly unholy number of PDF attachments, we have somehow made it to the end (or beginning?) of the process. We have a front door that sticks and a garden that I’m not emotionally perpared to talk about yet — but it’s mine.
It’s a bit of a gut job. Not in a dramatic DIY SOS sense. Just a lot of rooms that need stripping back and figuring out, slowly. It’s a project. And weirdly, I’m enjoying it. Even if my bank balance isn’t.
I am, however, disappointed that all my years of Animal Crossing didn’t prepare me for real stress of homeownership. Tom Nook made it all look so easy — and he would be really proud of how seriously I’m taking paying off this mortgage!

Separately, at the end of last year, I got a diagnosis that had been a long time coming. It’s not life-threatening, but a definite perspective-shifter. I felt a little untethered for a while. Still do, occasionally. But the dust has settled. The chaos of a new role and a new house has certainly helped reaffirm that it’s not the end of the world — even when it feels like it!
Somewhere in the middle of all of this, I turned twenty-seven (thanks to Adam’s Cakes for the INSANE cake!!) and have finally picked up the pen again — or rather, Microsoft Word — to start writing fiction again!
I’ve got two story ideas wrestling for attention in my brain, and neither one has quite made up its mind yet. But it feels good to be writing again. I’m finding inspiration in the smallest of things: conversations, tube/train rides, odd moments. It’s all finding its way in.
Beta readers, you’re officially invited to join the queue — don’t worry, it’s not too long yet. Watch this space.

I also finally made it out to see The Comedy About Spies at the Noël Coward Theatre.
As a longtime fan of everything Mischief, this one didn’t disappoint. Fast, funny, and completely ridiculous in all the best ways.
Set in a London hotel during the Cold War, the plot follows rival spy agencies chasing after stolen plans for a secret weapon, with mistaken identities, not-so-covert rooftop handovers, and one very confused baker who ends up caught in the middle!
There’s a chaotic mix of CIA, KGB, and civilians all trying (and mostly failing) to outsmart each other. The cast are great, the writing’s tight, and it’s just really good fun. Highly recommend if you need a proper, ridiculous night out.

So that’s where I’ve been: armed with polyfilla, a Pinterest board, and a dream.
Through this all, I’ve still been reading so there’s plenty of bookish content and reviews on the way. I also have a ton of holiday blog posts that I never got around to publishing that will gradually be rolled out.
More soon — dust, drafts, and all.
